Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)

We use radial shockwave therapy that delivers multiple low-energy acoustic sound waves that penetrate as deep as 5cm into the tissues. The body responds by increasing metabolic activity around the site of pain.

This response both stimulates and accelerates the healing process by increasing blood flow to the affected area. Shock waves may break down scar tissue, and possibly calcification as well. Transmission of pain is blocked by elimination of 'substance P' (a chemical process within the body that influences pain perception).

Radial ESWT provides a holistic, and non-invasive alternative to:

• Surgery
• Steroid injection
• Oral Medication
• Patient is normally satisfied within 5-10 minutes of treatment

ESWT is an FDA approved, and largely side-effect and risk free. As with all medical treatments however, not all are suitable for everyone. Therefore, an initial consultation with one of our Podiatrists beforehand will be required to ensure that this treatment is suitable for you.

If your pain has been present for 6 weeks or less, 4 sessions once a week are recommended.

For symptoms of pain that have lasted for 6 months or longer, more sessions may be required to attain a successful outcome.
