Read on to find out more about the latest innovation in fungal nail treatment technology:
What is Lunula Laser Therapy?
Lunula Laser Therapy is a cutting-edge fungal toenail treatment, also designed to combat a variety of other common skin and nail conditions such as athlete’s foot, psoriatic nails or traumatised nails. The non-invasive procedure utilises low-level laser technology to target and eliminate fungal organisms and promote healing without causing harm to surrounding tissue.
How It Works: The Science
During a Lunula Laser Therapy session, two rotating diodes administer light to the cells, emitting both ultra-violet and infra-red light. These diodes deliver light energy to the cells, which triggers a biochemical response. Specifically, the photoreceptors within the cells convert this energy into two chemicals naturally occurring in the body.
The ultra-violet light stimulates the production of Hydrogen Peroxide, a natural antiseptic. This chemical plays a crucial role in breaking down fungal organisms present in the affected area.
Simultaneously, the infra-red light stimulates the production of nitric oxide, a vaso-dilator. This compound helps to increase blood flow to the treated area, bolstering the body's immune response against the fungal infection. By harnessing the body's natural healing mechanisms, the Lunula Laser treatment effectively targets and eliminates fungal foot infections while promoting overall nail health. Pretty clever?!

Safety
Unlike oral medications or topical creams, Lunula Laser Therapy is a non-invasive procedure that poses minimal risk of side effects. We don’t mean to boast, but it’s actually the very first and only non-thermal laser to receive FDA 510(k) Market Clearance for new clear nail growth.
Convenience
The treatment uses COLD laser technology for a pain free experience. They’re also incredibly quick sessions, allowing you to get straight back to your day-to-day.
Versatility
In addition to nail fungal infections, Lunula Laser Therapy can address various skin and nail conditions, providing comprehensive care in one treatment modality.
What to Expect
When you arrive at the Forest Foot and Health Clinic for your Lunula Laser Therapy session, a member from our friendly podiatry team will begin by thoroughly examining your nails to assess the severity of the fungal infection. All our patients require an initial assessment appointment to determine if the treatment is right for you, based on your medical history. If deemed suitable, on the first treatment, you’ll be issued with an aftercare package and instructions on how to help prevent of re-infection. We’ll also ask you to bring a clean pair of socks and shoes to each treatment session (there’s no point putting your feet back into contaminated socks/shoes!).
Once the assessment is complete, the laser treatment, tailored to your condition, will be carried out, typically lasting just 12-15 minutes per foot. Throughout the session, you may feel what our clients have described as a ‘gentle warming sensation’ - but that’s about it! A course of 4 treatments is recommended and these can be from 1 to 6 weeks apart.
After your treatment, you can expect to see gradual improvement in the appearance and texture of your nails as the fungal infection clears. Depending on the severity of your condition, multiple sessions may be recommended to achieve optimal results – but our professionals will discuss this with you.
Don't let persistent foot conditions hold you back. Take one step forward with Lunula Laser Therapy and bid farewell to your fungal woes – allowing you to enjoy happy, healthy and beautiful feet once again.
